It has been more than half a century since the first public performance of electronic music in history was broadcast by a radio station at Cologne, Germany in 1953.
In the meantime, the term ‘electronic music’ has come to refer mainly to the landmark compositions and concepts that employed electronic technologies, with a completely new musical vision.
At present, this new genre is described using alternative definitions such as computer music, electro-acoustic music or even digital music as a branch of media arts.
The Japan Society for Electronic Music (JSEM) was established in 1992 for the purpose of extending the early visions of electronic music into the 21st century and it has been actively involved in international projects by composers, researchers and engineers ever since.
